The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks the Tucson, AZ Metropolitan Statistical Area at 163 (out of 372) with an unemployment rate of 8.4% citing statistics from this past November (the last month with hard figures). This puts the Tucson area at just below the half way point between the best rates - and the worst ones in the country.

What does this mean for Tucson residents looking for a job? Business as usual.

Searching for Jobs in Tucson?

At Tucson Jobing, the company claims to have made some new, innovative changes to help job seekers easily find just the right employment that they want. How? By providing customized search tools, easy to browse job listings, and a feed of the most recently posted jobs. Some of these include Domino’s Pizza, Geico, and Convergys—which seems to be one of the largest employers everywhere. Honestly, though, these features are offered at most other sites as well. Still, it’s an easy to use site, and job hunters in Tucson should think about adding it to their bookmarks while they search for their perfect career.

Government Job Losses are Mostly at the Community Level

Among the job losses we’ve been seeing over the past few years, government jobs seem to be taking one of the hardest hits—though not where they should be, perhaps. Rather than cutting politician pay, aides, and other red tape jobs, it’s the ones in our communities that seem to be cut the most. Take South Carolina, for example. The state has lost nearly 15,000 education jobs within the past year, but most were in the education sector. Perhaps if more cuts were made on wasteful spending and politician expenditures, we could lower the slowly dropping unemployment rates much more quickly—and prevent many jobs from being cut in the first place.

I’ve never been to Tucson, but when I think of it, the film Boys on the Side always comes to my mind, and I always think the scenery as a romanticized part dessert, part spiritual retreat. The Philadelphia Unemployment Rate is hovering around 10.8% according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics from this past January (the most recent date information was available). This number is higher than many (especially those who are actually unemployed) in the Philly area would like, but there is still some hope for further recovery. Let's try and keep positive about this guys!
